‘Mani sir, I owe you one’
Even as he clutched his precious Black Lady, all Vikram could think about was his experiences while shooting for Raavanan. “He (Raavanan) might have easily kidnapped a lady in the Ramayana but I had to work really, really hard to get this lady,” said the actor, “Even now, when I think of it, I shudder.”
Chiyaan Vikram must have been referring to, among other things, the climax cliff fight which had filmgoers in awe when Raavanan hit screens last year. “For this film, I had to do a lot of things that I’ve never done before,” he added, “Mani sir seemed to have reserved his most memorable character for me and I’m grateful to him for having faith in me to pull it off. Plus, he gave me two different characters to play in the two versions (Tamil and Hindi) of the film. Mani sir, I owe you one.”
Vikram’s portrayal of Veeraiya earned a lot of critical acclaim, with some industry experts who watched both the versions (Raavanan and Raavan) stating that his performance was more compelling than Abhishek Bachchan’s.
The actor, who is currently busy with a couple of Tamil films including one with director Suseenthiran, is looking forward to the release of his Deiva Thiirumagal. So, will that be better than what we saw in Raavanan? “I never compare two characters; I’m quite happy playing diverse types of roles. Director Vijay’s Deiva Thiirumagal has shaped up very well… and, you better watch out for that one!”
