Chiyaan Vikram is a versatile actor who opts for challeng ing roles and walks the extra mile to get the right `looks' for the roles he plays. In Rajapaatai which hits the screens today, the National Award win ning actor essays a gym instructor and a wannabe movie stunt man on the lookout for elusive villain's roles. The actor spoke to DC about his 17 avatars in Rajapattai, in an exclu sive.
“I am not performing 17 roles in the movie as mis construed by many . I had the chance to change my appearance 17 times because I play an aspiring actor (villain).“ Chiyaan was full of praise for Suseendhran. “I love his style of filmmaking, whether it's Naan Mahan Alla or Azhagar Samiyin Kudhirai. He gave me a lot of freedom, but without making compromises. What surprised me was the way he made me improvise on the spot, I was literally zapped. It's a pleasure working with him.“
Vikram says that he had worked extremely hard for Rajapattai. “The last 30 days were gruelling. I have never worked continuously for any other film in my career like I did for this film. I was putting on makeup non-stop for each character and I had to change my body language. Even though each was a miniscule role, considering their importance in the script, we had to put in so much of work.” He adds, “Some of the characters like Michael and Anandhakrishnan are so well etched that Susee can make a separate full-fledged role from each one of them and even make a script — I don’t mind acting in it! When you watch the film you’ll agree with me and say that it has all the potential for another National Award.”
He said recently he wanted to work with directors like Vijay and Susee again. “Not only those two, my wish list is long — Mani Ratnam, Shankar, Dharani and Hari. Their comfort level with me, the way they work in a planned manner, their confidence levels make me completely surrender to them. They are focused on work while shooting is on. You will never see them at parties or functions while at work”, he comments. On Deeksha he says, “She was a very cooperative costar and a chilled out person”. He is in awe of his costar, veteran K.Vishwanath.
“I am his fan, I watched Sankarabharanam and Salangai Oli 14 times. His passion for cinema amazes me!” Vikram has rendered a ‘kutthu’ number for the first time.
“Yuvan made me sing the Laddu laddu song which was shot on me, Reema and Shriya.
A lot of people said that it was peppy and racy.”
